What a surprise......
So this former high-level Bush administration official has been arrested for trying out a dip-shit shoplifting scam on Target. And the president is 'shocked'.
I'm sure he is. If it were the Vice President, that'd be one thing because laws literally don't apply to him. But an administration official who has the time or is 'lowly' enough to even have to shop at Target (you don't actually think people like Scooter Libby and Cheney actually shop for themselves at all, much less at Target, do you?), he isn't powerful enough to ride out that sort of behavior and keep his job.
Man, what a jerk. But he picked the right chain of stores to get pinched for it. Target apparently is renown for its shoplifting/theft detection and response.
It's a simple yet inelegant scam: buy something, take it out to your car, return to the store with the receipt for the something in hand, go back and get another of the something, make a beeline for the return counter, get your money back, go home with the first something you purchased AND the cash for it in hand.
And he got pinched. That's not all that surprising. What isn't surprising at all is that he is yet another 'conservative' Republican who in action (1) doesn't think the law applies to him and (2) is simply and literally a crook. Consevatives LOVE to spout off about being tough on crime and all that, yet they do things like this themselves. Not that Democrats don't. But Democrats aren't so sanctimonious about telling the rest of us about such virtues being so important in others. In others but not as much in themselves.
You know how this dance goes from here, though: he pleads that he was under a lot of mental stress in his life, he didn't know what he was doing, and he goes into alcohol/drug rehab very soon.
Which is all bullshit, of course.
You don't hatch or execute such a plan multiple times because you're depressed or under stress. Why would you do something so stressful if you were already under stress?
This guy's a fucking crook and should go to jail. Hopefully he does and gets to spend it with folks he said in his past life should be in the can for crimes like his.
